Grand Canyon, Arizona
If we are being honest, before this trip I was never really that into hiking. Besides that middle of the night hike up Mt Batur in Bali last year I haven’t really done much more hiking/walking then the daily Bondi to Bronte walk. Although there was something different about hiking the Canyon. Firstly probably because you get to do the down hill part first (winning) and secondly because the Grand Canyon is one of the most incredible places.
We spend our morning walking along the South Rim in awe of the depth and grandness of the canyon. Then in the afternoon we hiked down into the Canyon on the South Kebab Trail. The trail wasn’t overly hard but the wind was strong so we only made it down to the Ooh-Aah point for an incredible 360 degree view. In the late afternoon we walked all the way around the edge to Hopi Point for the best spot for sunset. Sunset would by far be one of my recommendations for a the grandest experience. It gets fairly cold though once the sun goes down. Granted we were there in April but none the less the dessert gets cold!
